The ice went out on Gunflint Lake on March 23rd, 2012. The earliest ever recorded iceout. Gunflint Lake is located near the end of the Gunflint Trail, on the edge of the BWCA and the US / Canada border. Previous records for Gunflint were April 10, 2010 and April 15, 1976.

The ice out date for Algonquin Park (Ontario, CA) was March 29, 2012 -- the earliest ice out in 50+ years of record keeping. The average date for the park's largest lake, Lake Opeongo, is April 23rd.
