Tent Zipper

I have a tent that needs a new zipper. Anyone have some tips? Someone said check with an upholstery shop, but the ones I checked with want more than the tent cost to fix it.

HELLO !!! YEPPER I got one for ya---try to find a person that does sewing near you and call/e-mail or phone her to see if thay can/would repair CARHART clothing; if they can fix them ----they can repair a zipper in your tent.I had a "wally-world"tent zipper replaced and then sealed,a 4'zipper cost me $28.00+$4.00,for the yyk zipper,it was a win/win,for me cause the other use was to use it as a "fly".

What about a regular seamstress/tailor? Maybe their prices are more competitive? Or maybe advertise via craigslist for someone who does that sort of work as a side job?
Or, if you don't sew yourself, does the construction of the tent allow for fabric glue and velcro as a replacement for the zipper?

---Try someone who repairs horse blankets. Sometimes they are associated with leather repair shops, or call stable and see if they can give you the name of someone.

Hi my name is Joe, and I'm from N.Y. I had a tent that the zipper broke. I got another zipper and cut the first couple of teeth off the old zipper tract and installed the new zipper. I put two safty pins over where I started the zipper and it worked fine.

If you are fortunate to have an Eureka tent this will be fairly easy to fix.. Same thing happened to my tent and I called Eureka customer service who mailed me a replacement zipper with instructions on fixing it. Worked beautifully after that. I do not know how other manufacturers handle this. LL Bean would do the same. Bottom line, call the manufacturer of the tent and see what they can do for you before trying the upholstery shop.
