BOUNDARY WATERS
CANOE TRIP

August 7th - 9th, 2009
Boundary Waters Canoe Area
Ely, MN

Women in the Outdoors provides opportunities
for women to learn new skills and meet people
with similar interests. This event is open to
women ages 14 years and older who desire
hands-on experience and develop skills in
outdoor activities, all in a fun, non-threatening
environment. Come join the fun at the 5th
annual BWCA Women in the Outdoors event!

All participants will arrive at the North American Bear
Center in Ely, MN on Friday by 1:00pm. Friday, will
consist of registration, a Bear Center program on
"Telemetry" (how they track the collared bears) a tour of
the Bear Center, where we will have the chance to see
bears in their enclosure from the inside viewing area or
observation deck. We will also take a guided hike with a
naturalist from the center. After our Bear Center
experience, we will head to the International Wolf Center,
where we will spend the night. While at the Wolf Center,
we will have our Dinner Banquet, preparation for our
BWCA trip, a Wolf Center evening program, where we
will learn to communicate with wolves on an evening
outing and finally settle in for the night while sleeping in
front of the Wolf Center’s observation window.

BWCA Overview:

Enter the BWCA at Lake One entry point. Break
into your assigned group, canoe with your guide into
the BWCA for an overnight trip. You will learn how
to canoe, portage, set-up camp, and thoroughly enjoy
the wilderness. This trip will be outfitted with food,
packs, tents (2 people per tent), sleeping bags, pads,
PFD’s, paddles, dining tarp, stove and more.

This FUN-FILLED getaway includes instruction and one
guide per group. Groups will have up to 9 people,
including the guide. (Camping equipment, canoe, food,
drinks), North American Bear Center and International
Wolf Center programs, a one-year subscription to our
quarterly “Women in the Outdoors” magazine and a
women’s cut t-shirt with a logo from this event will be
included in the cost. Upon receipt of payment and
completed registration form, you will be sent a
confirmation e-mail with information on the trip and ideas
on what to pack.

We will be having an informational meeting with the outfitter a few weeks before the event, in the Twin Cities.
