Voyageurs National Park

We will be heading up the North Shore mid August. We'll head west then looking for a spot to start the BWACW adventure. We have a 6 year old and may want to do a little canoeing and houseboating. Where is a good place to go from the east or should we drive to the Inernational Falls area?

Some houseboating on Birch Lake just south of Ely through Timber Bay Lodge.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
