Best Camping Food For Kids

Camp cooking can be an issue on every outdoor trip as it can be difficult to please the palates of everyone involved to their satisfaction. Especially tough is to address the requests of children for particular food items when camping, but by making available an array of the best general camping food for kids peace and quiet can be restored. The best camping foods for kids are mostly items that children enjoy the taste of, foods that travel well, and most importantly are foods that kids can make themselves with supervision over a camp fire. Even in instances where parents perform the actual cooking chores kids can be pleased to participate in the preparation.

It is of the utmost importance to remember when kids are cooking themselves near an open fire to never leave them unsupervised for a single moment, as accidents can happen quickly and the result can be devastating. Establish firm ground rules prior to letting children anywhere near the fire, and make it understood clearly that horseplay will not be tolerated.
The best camping food for kids are items that can be cooked on a sharpened stick over the camp fire that cook quickly with little chance of burning. Hot dogs have to be the all-time favorite of kids in camp, followed closely by s'mores. A s'more made from a fire roasted marshmallow has a flavor that cannot be duplicated at home, and kids will love them. Another of the best camping foods for kids are dough snakes, which is simply biscuit dough rolled into the shape of a snake and wrapped around a stick, and then cooked over an open fire. As the dough gets close to being done a little butter rubbed on it and a sprinkle of cinnamon makes a tasty treat that is fun to eat.

One of the best camping food for kids is to make stuffed bananas, by peeling a banana and cutting it lengthwise in half and hollowing out the center. After stuffing both halves of the banana with peanut butter and chocolate place it back into the banana skin that has been soaked in water and use a few toothpicks to hold it together. Put the banana on a forked stick and it will cook over a camp fire in only a minute or two.

Lastly, one of the very best camping food for kids is to make hard-tack trail mix. In a lightly greased pan place a mixture of nuts and dried fruit, several ounces of molasses, a few pats of butter and a thickening agent such as corn starch. Cover the pan and let it sit on the flickering coals of a camp fire for about five minutes, remove from the fire and let it cool. The hard-tack trail mix can then be broken into pieces and put into a plastic storage bag for a great snack while hiking or when kids get hungry close to meal times.

all food is good food:-) I've seen scouts eat things camping that they wouldn't touch for their parents and like what they ate.

pizzas made with flour tortillas, spaghetti sauce, cheese, pepperoni - grilled or on aluminum foil with tortilla folded in 1/2

grilled cheese; chicken/rice/gravy; PBJ; jello cheesecake (sit near water for cooling effect); pancakes/bacon; omelets; cobblers; cake; blueberries in everything; fish/hush puppies/hash browns; smores;
