Dog sledding/winter camping routes

Postby 3 dog knight » Tue Jan 13, 2009 11:29 pm

From everything i've read online it appears that this years ton of snow has also spawned a ton of SLUSH on BWCA lakes. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a land route that we can take to get us to a decent fishing lake OR a lake that has enough traffic on it to get packed and frozen so slush isn't a problem? We're thinking about the 1/23-26 week's end and would like to jump off from the Ely area.

Any great ideas or routes?

Check and see anywhere that the sled-doggers might be going. They'll have a trail packed down. Possibilities - Basswood, Ensign and on to Knife, or Thomas Lake. I've seen a lot of sledders around this year.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
