Where are some of the good vistas along the Border Route Trail?

Perhaps the most significant overlook would be the Rose Lake cliffs located between Stairway Portage and the South Lake Trail. Other overlooks abound - from the high cliffs over Gunflint Lake on the western end to the 360 degree overlook a mile in from the eastern end.

For details, get a copy of "The Border Route Trail - A Trail Guide and Map" which can be ordered through www.BorderRouteTrail.org .

Detailed McKenzie topo maps numbers 1, 2, 4, and 98 cover the entire BRT and are available at www.bwcamaps.com .

The McKenzie maps use GPS data which has not been modified to take into account the survey and other errors which are reflected on the USGS topo maps on which they are based. Therefore the trail will occasionally be shown as plunging off the edge of a cliff only to climb back up when in actuality it does indeed stay on top.

Hope this helps a bit.

I'd love to see some more posts about the Border Route Trail. Does anyone have any trip reports, photos, or trail conditions to post?
