Latest report from my buddy Tom who was out this last weekend:

Well, we made it into Knife this past weekend - the slush froze up enough so you
could stay on top for the most part. We camped on Ensign Lake - fished northerns
the first day - landed 3 beautiful eaters (9 - 13lbs). We day tripped into Knife
Lake on Sunday - almost no action until late in the day - lost
a few - finally managed to land 4 nice ones (4-6lbs) - got back to camp at about 7
PM - slept well that night!

It ended up being quite a trip - lots of great exercise and the country up toward knife seemed
like something from the far north - maybe its the blowdown effect - seems really
desolate looking - seemed pretty wintry too - 4 inches of snow or so. Wish you
could have been with - maybe next winter, eh?

Thanks for all the help
with the ice conditions - kind of a miracle we were able to pull off the trip -
pretty nice traveling conditions now - it didn't look like anyone had been traveling
for awhile - opened up the old trail all the way to knife - looked like the dog
sledders have run it quite a bit - marked most of it with sticks. Take care.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
