Re: Wind Lake

Last year we took my 8 year old grandson to Wind Lake for 3 days. That portage isn't bad at all.

If you want to read more about what Wind Lake was like for us: http://www.vnorth.com/images/pdfs/vno_gazette_2013.pdf

Have a great time, don't wait too long to reserve your BWCA/Moose Lake permit!

Re: 2013 Ely Area Photo Contest

I'll go with the Northern Lights. I like the moose pictures but nothing so out of the ordinary (except that he actually found moose to photograph. :-) I really like the Main Drag one by Hupila but not sure if an "obvious" playing around with the picture should go over others. I would give ...

Re: Best Time?

The best fishing is mid May to mid June, basically. Not that you can't get some great fishing other times of course. For the least bugs it would be mid May or mid August & later. Bugs are also in certain areas more during the summer, so you can plan a trip with less low lands & creeks to hel...

A lot of times the author does a "real" book first then does an audio. Let me know if you see a version like that, :-)

Re: Safe Storage

Are you asking for RV storage while on a canoe trip in Ely? Or storage in your home town?

We do have some spots where you can park your RV that are pretty level. We just have to have enough advance notice to be sure we have those spots open.

Re: Knife Lake Fire

Just got a lot of rain tonight, for about 45 minutes. However, also had lightning and hoping it didn't start a spark anywhere. If I hear of any news about new fires, finnbay or I will post about it, right FB? :-)

Re: Knife Lake Fire

Just got a notice today (from FS) that the fire restrictions on the east side of the park have been lifted and the Knife Lake fire is at 80% contained or better.

Will post the actual message a little later on today.

Re: Knife Lake Fire

With the rain we had on Thursday and then again Thursday night, I'm thinking that the 60% should be helped to about 70% or more, hopefully.

Will post updates from the FS (Forest Service) as I hear them.

Re: Fines for Motor Usage?

Fire should be the highest as it is the most dangerous. A fire unattended or not drowned out, there is no excuse!

Re: Safety

It depends on where you go. Some routes have rivers and rapids that you portage around and some routes are lake to lake with portages in between.

Where are you going?

Re: Secluded Smallmouth out of Ely? Help Please

Luckily, if you go to the Crab Lake area, you'll find smallies almost everywhere! :-)

A lot of times the smallie action is good in Coxey Pond, where not as many people go. Nice big campsite there too.
