Bjorn, when would you be going? The condition of the river depends on when. We have gotten a lot of snow this year, so the water levels are promising. I wouldn't say the river has a "lot" of portages, but I agree that for the most part, they are short.

The best fishing (& catching) time is spring. That is when it is going to be more productive for walleye, pike and trout. Smallmouth will bite too at that time though they are hitting hard on top water a little later on.

Do you have some time to do this mid-late May or early to mid June?

The cost for the BWCA trip is $16.00 per person, per trip (not per day). How much you'll have to carry your canoe depends on what entry point you use. Some are right at the water's edge, some have a half mile or so, portage in. We can't really tell you how much you'll have to carry it unless you can...

I was wondering if anyone uses the beginning of Minnesota's fishing season to do a long trip? I know a lot of people take just a weekend trip for the most part.

Yes, Indiana has some nice big smallies and isn't too bad for northern pike either. Just 2 campsites on the lake but not many go there.

I was there over 15 years ago and had a successful fishing 3 days.

When I was in Barnes & Noble (Duluth) I saw something that said Krueger was coming out with a new book. Plus he was going to be at that store sometime soon to do a book signing. (not sure of date)

One of our customers wrote this blog/article about the Boundary Waters as sort of an introduction to the park. Thought it was pretty good, especially for the new paddler.

Anyone think they will change there mind if it is shown that the main reason for the declining moose population in northern Minnesota is due to the increase in wolf population?

Just wondering.

Not enough moose up in the Arrowhead to let the hunt go on for this year and most likely for quite a number more, if at all.

Heard that we have gotten snow in Ely (since we've been in Indy for a sport show) so there should be plenty to run on.

How about Lake One? You can still get to Lake Three with 2 short portages. The trails are pretty easy and you can help her on the uphill (which isn't much).

Got about 6-8 inches of snow over the weekend. Snowmobiling should be good. Be careful on Vermilion Lake for bad spots.
