Re: Newbie here, full of questions

Least bugs & most fish is usually mid May to early June. If the ice doesn't open up soon, then I'd say about a week later on both sides.

Re: Bugs

Our spring is just barely "spring" so far, unfortunately! :-( We are really hoping that we have ice-out this year, on Fishing Opener. Last year is was 2 days later, not good. For bugs, this may be a good thing but it depends on how it is in May. You could contact us again around May 10th, ...

Re: 2 Day Trip

For a short 2 day trip (one night, correct?), you could try starting at #27 Snowbank and paddle over to Perent or Disappointment Lake. There are a number of hiking trails (part of the Kekekabic Trail) that you could do some day hiking trips on. Or to up to #14 Little Indian Sioux, paddle up to Shell...

Re: Bugs

Depending when in June and where you go. Early June more sandflies (we call them blackflies). Then the mosquitoes start mid June and we can have the ankle biting flies too. Each year is different for bugs, depending on how the spring has been. Wet & cold, not as many. Dry & hot, not as many....

Re: Wind Lake

Last year we took my 8 year old grandson to Wind Lake for 3 days. That portage isn't bad at all.

If you want to read more about what Wind Lake was like for us: http://www.vnorth.com/images/pdfs/vno_gazette_2013.pdf

Have a great time, don't wait too long to reserve your BWCA/Moose Lake permit!

Re: Best Time?

The best fishing is mid May to mid June, basically. Not that you can't get some great fishing other times of course. For the least bugs it would be mid May or mid August & later. Bugs are also in certain areas more during the summer, so you can plan a trip with less low lands & creeks to hel...

Re: Safe Storage

Are you asking for RV storage while on a canoe trip in Ely? Or storage in your home town?

We do have some spots where you can park your RV that are pretty level. We just have to have enough advance notice to be sure we have those spots open.
